Professional journalist.

He was president of the Italian Catholic University Federation from 1979 to 1983 and member of the Presidency and the National Council of Catholic until 1989.

From 1983 to 1984 he worked as chief editor of the international journal “Notes et documents” of the International Institute “Jacques Maritain”.

One of the founders of the Cristiano Sociali in 1993 and, from 1999 to 2002, was political coordinator of the movement.

In 2000 he became a member of the national secretariat of the Democratici di Sinistra and head of the Department school, university and research of the party.

He is one of the twelve “wise men” who drafted the Manifesto of the Partito Democratico.

From November 4, 2007 until the general election of 2008 was one of 17 members of the national executive of the party, appointed by the Secretary Walter Veltroni, as Economics responsible.

Subsequently, he was head of the studies, research and training of the Partito Democratico.

He is currently a member of the Assembly and the National Secretariat of the Partito Democratico.

He is vice president of the Italy-USA Foundation.
